Protect Yourself from Online Fraud

While the vast majority of listings are posted by honest and trustworthy individuals—allowing for excellent business opportunities—it’s still essential to exercise caution to avoid potential scams. By following a few common-sense guidelines, you can help protect yourself from fraudulent activity.

Our Safety Tips

  • Meet in person whenever possible: Always try to conduct transactions face-to-face.

  • Avoid anonymous payment methods: Never send money via Western Union, MoneyGram, or any other untraceable payment system.

  • Do not send money or goods abroad: Be especially cautious with international requests.

  • Do not accept checks: These can often be forged or used in fraudulent schemes.

  • Verify the person you're dealing with: Ask for a secondary confirmation of their name, address, and phone number from an independent source.

  • Keep a record of all communications: Save emails, messages, listings, and any related information.

  • Trust your instincts: If a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is—walk away.

How to Recognize a Scam Attempt

Many scams share common warning signs. Be alert if:

  • The individual claims to be located overseas or currently traveling abroad.

  • They refuse to meet in person.

  • They request payment via Western Union, MoneyGram, or offer to pay by check.

  • The messages contain poor grammar or unusual phrasing.

  • The text appears to be copied and pasted, possibly from another source.

  • The offer seems exceptionally favorable or unrealistic.

Stay vigilant. Protect your information. And when in doubt—don’t proceed.
